I love movie trailers. Exciting, well edited, just enough to get you pumped for the full length feature. You’re a smart crowd. You know where this is going. Welcome Duncan and Samantha to the ranks of the blissfully and legally entangled.
Update: I love it when our couples and families write to us, because no matter what I post and where we are published, it’s their opinion that matters to us most. Here’s something from John Tract, Samantha’s father:
“Don- Your pictures clearly speak for themselves and it is no wonder Samantha says that you are the best photographer in Richmond. (even though you can’t do sunsets from moving trolleys!) I just wanted to add that I’m not sure that there could possibly be a photographer more fun to be around on such a special (stressful) day. Thanks for making a great day that much greater just by being you.”
Thank you John for an amazing endorsement and we enjoyed your families so much.
More to come soon!
Here we are at the beautiful Keswick Hall, just outside of Charlottesville, VA and here we have the beautiful, loving, and charming couple now known as Mr. and Mrs. Sergio and Sohair Aguirre. From the very first phone call from these two you could feel a certain warmth in the way they addressed life and the people around them. We met at Keswick soon after that conversation and after they booked us just to sit down and chat with them, go over the wedding day, and simply get to know each other a little better. That warmth I sensed over the phone was definitely there along with a relaxed grace from them both. The chat grew from a small one in to a long path through their history and their family stories. I knew if their families and friends were anything like these two then we were in for a smooth and elegant evening. That is exactly what we received, along with a little international flavor. With a mixture of Persian and Christian traditions, the ceremony was lovely and exotic, the reception was non-stop dancing and laughter. When the last sparkler faded, we were very sorry to see Sergio and Sohair leave. Congratulations to them both and enjoy the images of their day.
Cute. Darn cute. Stinkin’ cute (wait..is that a compliment?) Anyway, that’s what Jessica and Steve definitely are and were during their merry little run around Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom and Canal Walk. They couldn’t stop laughing or smiling during the entire shoot. So, either I’m one hilarious person (possibly true) or these two really enjoy each others company. I’m pulling for the latter.
Please consider giving Jessica and Steve a like or a tweet for their hard work and dedication to the art of adorable. Enjoy!

And now welcome Megan and Norman to the Don Mears Photography family. This was our first visit to Afton Mountain Vineyards so we were excited to get out there, spend a little time with the area before everyone arrived. We definitely recommend sitting down for their breads, meats, and cheeses. Unfortunately, there was no wine for us as we were just about an hour before our start time, but we’ll definitely be heading back sometime in the near future
I have a special place in my heart for Norman and I’ll explain why. During the planning with them I noticed that all the bridesmaids were siblings of either Megan or Norman. What I didn’t piece together was that Norman, as of his vows had three of his own sisters, three new sisters-in-law, a mother and mother-in-law, and Megan of course. That’s NINE women directly tied to his life in some capacity. The coolest thing, and I know this sounds cheesy, but you could see in his eyes during the ceremony that, to him, Megan was the only woman there. (cue soft music)
The vineyard was lovely, the ceremony was elegant, and the reception was full of craziness and laughter. You know, a perfect wedding day.
Enjoy.
Now that we’ve shared some fantastic moments for Megan and Norm, here’s a little remembrance of the little things that make up the beauty of a wedding day. PS. Make sure you click on the “READ MORE”. It’s fun! Everyone’s doing it!
And last, but by no means least, some of our favorite moments for Emily and Patrick. Another beautifully designed and classic Richmond wedding with the ever stunning Cathedral for the ceremony and the well-appointed ballroom at the Wyndham Virginia Crossings. Enjoy!
This is a little break from the norm here. Where possible we’re going to try to feature the details on their own for wedding days where we think it makes sense. We are first and foremost photographers who are “in the moment”, but that doesn’t mean we don’t love the little plans and labors of love that our couples (and their friends and family) display for the guests. So, here’s a showcase of those labors that Emily and Patrick made a part of event.
Here are a few of the vendors involved: Lariza Rife of Detail by Detail, The Wyndham Virginia Crossings, Party Perfect, Classic Party Rentals, Flower Girls Inc., Cakes by Graham, Red Orange Designs, Lula Kate Designs at Bella Bridesmaids Salon.
This is the first of three posts today in what we’ll call an image extravaganza for the Grauel-McKenzie Wedding. Emily and Patrick spent quite a bit of time with us during their wedding week so I decided to try something a little different with their blog posts. Consider it thrown against the wall and now we’ll see if it sticks. First up we’ll introduce you to the couple just before the wedding day and their romp through downtown Richmond for the engagement session. I’ve said it many times and I’ll say it again, Richmond is absolutely a remarkable place to be a photographer. There’s no way in my lifetime that I’ll run out of corners to turn so I can be surprised by what I find. The three of us had a fun time wandering about looking for new and fun things to sit on or, in their case, dance around in (see parking lot shot!). Enjoy and more to come very soon!
