As the blog to roll in the craziness that is the fall wedding season, we close out September with the first of two events, the wedding of Joy and Chris held at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.  Through their engagement session and Joy’s bridal shoot, I have come to absolutely adore this couple.  The conversation just seemed to flow as we moved from shoot to shoot, and continued on in to the wedding day.  Surrounded by friends and family, these two just never stopped smiling and you could tell the effect they had on everyone around them.  Definitely check out their little couples shoot at the end of the evening as they retired to the Jefferson as a newly married couple.  Think they have a little bit of a theatrical side?  I love it.

Enjoy.

Ahh…now it’s time to bring the whole event to the public.  This was our first venture in to the Historic Tredegar for wedding event despite having shot many sessions there in the past.  We’re so glad we got to do it with Samantha and Duncan.  The ever lovely Cannon Chapel at the University of Richmond is where we started the day, followed by a little photographic tour of campus.  Seriously, if you’re ever in Richmond you have to tour the grounds of this beautiful university.  Then we were off to a classic part of Richmond’s history and a gem in its collection of riverfront attractions.  The Tredegar Iron Works make a fantastic venue, but the way this wedding was appointed with various lighting arrangements, tent decorations, and table displays was just fantastic.  Samantha and Duncan, your families, your friends…everyone was fun, funny, and great to work with.  Thank you for making us a part of it all.

We’re zooming along trying to get this post online for poor Amanda.  It seems we sent her the link to the entire slideshow of her wedding only to find out she can’t view it at work!!!  So, what are we to do but give her an even better peak at the entire wedding day.  You out there in viewer land can certainly go view the slideshow here:  http://www.donmearsphotography.com/willis-gupta.

You can also stay right here and enjoy the abbreviated version.  Either way, we’re all here for Amanda!  Oh, and Eric, however I’m sure he’s here for her, too.

So sit back, relax, and take in the sights of downtown Richmond and the intimate garden courtyard of the Valentine Museum of Richmond, the very energetic crowd, and the lovely couple.

Enjoy!!

I love movie trailers.  Exciting, well edited, just enough to get you pumped for the full length feature.  You’re a smart crowd.  You know where this is going.  Welcome Duncan and Samantha to the ranks of the blissfully and legally entangled.

Update:  I love it when our couples and families write to us, because no matter what I post and where we are published, it’s their opinion that matters to us most.  Here’s something from John Tract, Samantha’s father:

“Don- Your pictures clearly speak for themselves and it is no wonder Samantha says that you are the best photographer in Richmond. (even though you can’t do sunsets from moving trolleys!) I just wanted to add that I’m not sure that there could possibly be a photographer more fun to be around on such a special (stressful) day. Thanks for making a great day that much greater just by being you.”

Thank you John for an amazing endorsement and we enjoyed your families so much.

More to come soon!

Here we are at the beautiful Keswick Hall, just outside of Charlottesville, VA and here we have the beautiful, loving, and charming couple now known as Mr. and Mrs. Sergio and Sohair Aguirre.  From the very first phone call from these two you could feel a certain warmth in the way they addressed life and the people around them.  We met at Keswick soon after that conversation and after they booked us just to sit down and chat with them, go over the wedding day, and simply get to know each other a little better.  That warmth I sensed over the phone was definitely there along with a relaxed grace from them both.  The chat grew from a small one in to a long path through their history and their family stories.  I knew if their families and friends were anything like these two then we were in for a smooth and elegant evening.  That is exactly what we received, along with a little international flavor.  With a mixture of Persian and Christian traditions, the ceremony was lovely and exotic, the reception was non-stop dancing and laughter.  When the last sparkler faded, we were very sorry to see Sergio and Sohair leave.  Congratulations to them both and enjoy the images of their day.

Cute.  Darn cute.  Stinkin’ cute (wait..is that a compliment?)  Anyway, that’s what Jessica and Steve definitely are and were during their merry little run around Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom and Canal Walk.  They couldn’t stop laughing or smiling during the entire shoot.  So, either I’m one hilarious person (possibly true) or these two really enjoy each others company.  I’m pulling for the latter.

Please consider giving Jessica and Steve a like or a tweet for their hard work and dedication to the art of adorable.  Enjoy!

And now welcome Megan and Norman to the Don Mears Photography family.  This was our first visit to Afton Mountain Vineyards so we were excited to get out there, spend a little time with the area before everyone arrived.  We definitely recommend sitting down for their breads, meats, and cheeses.  Unfortunately, there was no wine for us as we were just about an hour before our start time, but we’ll definitely be heading back sometime in the near future

I have a special place in my heart for Norman and I’ll explain why.  During the planning with them I noticed that all the bridesmaids were siblings of either Megan or Norman.  What I didn’t piece together was that Norman, as of his vows had three of his own sisters, three new sisters-in-law, a mother and mother-in-law, and Megan of course.  That’s NINE women directly tied to his life in some capacity.  The coolest thing, and I know this sounds cheesy, but you could see in his eyes during the ceremony that, to him, Megan was the only woman there. (cue soft music)

The vineyard was lovely, the ceremony was elegant, and the reception was full of craziness and laughter.  You know, a perfect wedding day.

Enjoy.
