Washington, D.C. is easily one of my favorite cities in the world.  For such a busy and crowded city, I’m always amazed by how little I feel hurried when I’m walking through it mid-day.  Also, it has some of the best architecture and public spaces you can find without a flight across the Atlantic.  So, when Jenny called to ask if I’d like to photograph their engagement session there I was thrilled.  From Eastern Market to Adams-Morgan and everything in-between, I could shoot for 2 days straight and not run out of backgrounds and fun things to interact with.  The three of us had a blast and I even found a new angle to the Capitol I’d never quite seen.  Definitely a good day.  Enjoy!

Ahh…back in to the swing of thing after a HUGE hiatus from blog posts.  Something about the birth of a new child will do that to you 🙂  The images galleries for Vivian will be coming soon enough, but for now I wanted to share the lovely Kelly McNeil with you.  She was married here in Richmond on July 24th and we were fortunate enough to be asked to photograph her bridal portraits.  The lovely Jefferson Hotel was the backdrop, always a great idea, and I think you can agree the dress was gorgeous.  Enjoy!

Allie and Justin were married at the beautiful Historic Mankin Mansion just this past month.  These are two of the most fun and animated people I’ve had the pleasure to photograph.  Between the wonderful backdrop of the Mankin and their expressive, fun, personalities it was a great experience as a photographer.  Truly, it was difficult to find a bad moment as I documented their wedding day.  Thank you to the Stoneman and O’Neale families for the lovely occasion and for making us a part of it.  Also, a big thanks to Bill Holland of Holland Photo Arts, who stepped in quite ably to fill in for Lindsay while she recovers from the birth of our second daughter (check us out on Facebook for pictures of our tiny Vivian).  Enjoy!

We joined Catherine and Andrew at Monument Avenue Baptist Church on a beautiful late-spring Saturday.  It has been a while since we’d been there so we were excited to learn we’d be photographing the ceremony in the cute little chapel on the other side of the building from the iconic sanctuary.  We’d met the couple through Celeste and Bobby (their fun-filled adventure can be found here) so we knew, with all the shared friends, that we were in for a fun party following the lovely ceremony.  There was no disappointment and the Lewis-Ginter Botanical Gardens weren’t so quiet that evening.  Our good friend Meghan McSweeney stepped in to help as Lindsay continues on towards the due date of baby #2.  Thank you to the Fletcher and Sledd families for treating us like family for the day and we’re thrilled that you’re loving the images.  Everyone else, enjoy!

It wasn’t too long ago that Ashley, Paul and I were having a lovely time on the University of Richmond campus and adventures in Wafflehousing (my term, just made it up) during their engagement session.  They were such great sports and a joy to work with, so I knew the wedding day would be easy fun.  From their first meeting at the Jefferson Hotel we headed back to campus for a beautiful ceremony at Cannon Chapel.  Now Mr. and Mrs., it was on to the Empire Room (one of my favorites in Richmond) for the reception, nimbly handled by Eric Cunningham from Choice Entertainment.  This is also the start of a series of guest photographers, good and talented friends, who have graciously stepped in to shoot with me while Lindsay recovers from the birth of our second daughter.  This week our dear friend Meghan McSweeney Thank you to the Yates and Gunther families for your hospitality and we wish you all the best.  Enjoy!

We have just finished downloading the White-Bourne wedding and have to say it was a great party.  Thank you to Kristie, Joe, their family and friends for making my first wedding, post-baby Vivian’s birth, a smashing success.  While we gear back up to tackle our mid-season workload, I thought I’d share Kristie’s bridal portrait session with you.  This was shot at the beautiful Maury Place Bed and Breakfast here in the Museum District.  Mack and Jeff have done such an amazing job with the restoration of this turn-of-the century home just off Monument Avenue.  Lindsay and I have stayed there on several occasions as an in-town getaway.  We definitely recommend it.

Until we post the wedding, here is the beautiful former Ms. White .  Enjoy!

While we work diligently on Allison’s wedding images from last weekend, I thought I’d share the beautiful bride with the world.  We photographed this session at Historic Mankin Mansion earlier this spring.  If you can’t see the personality on this girl, you aren’t even looking.  Enjoy and we’ll be back soon with the wedding day!

For those of you playing at home, you may remember Carolyn and Josh from last summer (engagement session here).  The two UR grads came back to campus for a lovely ceremony at Cannon Chapel, then off to the Westhampton campus of the Country Club of Virginia.  It was quite the elegant affair, with a twist or two.  It seems we had quite the collection of dancers among the family friends.  Bill Gilliam from Choice Entertainment (product placement alert) had no problem keeping the party going.  Thank you to the Crandalls and the Holmans.  It was a pleasure to spend the evening with you.  Enjoy!

A beautiful April morning in Richmond greeted us as we headed out to meet Christy and Travis at the Wyndham Virginia Crossings for a little getting ready time.  Having already spent a little time with them on their engagement session (and my first live rendition of the “happy dance” from the TV show “Psych”), I knew everyone would be smiling, laughing, and generally being their happy selves.  Then it was on to St. Michael’s Catholic Church in the West End for a wonderful ceremony.  After a little runabout in Innsbrook we settled in at the Wyndham Virginia Crossings for the evening.  Thank you to the Marr and Gray families for making us a part of the family for an evening.  Enjoy!

Sarah and Tim were married on a beautiful Richmond afternoon in March.  After a cloudy engagement session and a rainy bridal session (indoors, thankfully), who’d have guessed we’d hit the jackpot with a warm and sunny spring day?  Well, no one was complaining, for sure.  The day started at the Salisbury Presbyterian Church for the ceremony and then we moved on to the delightful Willow Oaks Country Club.  Thank you to the Reyes and Young families for being so easy to work with and to all the family and guests for providing us with a great environment to capture moments for Sarah and Tim.  Also, stay tuned to the humanstoryfilms.com blog for the wonderful video work of Bill Gaff and his staff.  Thank you and we’ll see you again soon!
